    Rules:

    1. The standard rules apply. Make sure you know them. They are here.

    2. Lynchings take place with a majority of votes... maybe. Do not assume that someone has been lynched until I say so.
    3. All votes must be made in bold. Please make my life easier by remembering to unvote before you vote again (however, this is not compulsory).
    4. Don?t directly quote any PMs from me. This absolutely includes the PMs that contain your role. Paraphrasing is fine, but dissection of PM structure is not.
    5. You must either post once every 72 hours or let me know within that time that you are still playing. After this time I will seek a replacement. If no replacement can be found you will be modkilled (and bear the responsibility for your team's disadvantage).
    6. This is a blind game. You take responsibility for keeping your real identity a secret from the other players: revealing it is a breach of the rules and will be treated as such.
    7. Players have been randomly assigned to names. Roles have been randomly assigned to names, so an "evil" name does not neccessarily match an "evil" role. The order that players are listed in is not the order in which they signed up.
    8. Dances in this game will always be deadlined at 48 hours (72 for weekends).
    9. If you have any questions, contact me directly or put them in the thread in bold. I may not notice them otherwise. I will always respond via PM (although you may not get the answer you hoped for :))

    Side Games:

    1. To add a bit of fun, each dance you should submit your thoughts as to the real identity of the players, as a list (in addition to any choices you may or may not have). It will be interesting to see who is most perceptive, and who is best at evading detection. As a result, I would rather you didn't discuss the real identities of other players in the game thread.

    2. To award the "Best Costume" award, during each dance you should submit a vote for your favourite costume (i.e. avatar) to me via a PM. The person with the most votes at the end will win! To this end, please choose avatars that are appropriate to your login name :)

Time advances, and before you know it, it's the day of the Mayor's Masquerade Ball! Completely disguised in your beautiful creation of a costume, you are sure that nobody could possibly discern the face behind your mask: how liberating!

Liberating indeed. Seated for a light meal, you are surrounded by eleven other guests disguised by a variety of equally impressive outfits. The conversation flows, a little awkwardly (as one would only expect in such a situation). It's even more awkward when a rather rotund figure, disguised as a monkey wearing a fez, slumps forward into his ice cream: dead. Someone gingerly removes his mask to reveal: The Mayor! It seems that his shadier dealings had finally caught up with him.

There are screams, and a stampede towards the door: sadly, it is locked and barred, and nobody has a key. It becomes apparent that only those around your table could possibly have had access to the victim, and, in the absence of any escape, the general consensus of the entire hall is that the ball should continue, but during the break between dances your table must discuss, and come to a consensus as to who is most likely harbour murderous intent. They will be dealt with in a traditionally grotesque way. Someone suggests instead just killing everyone on your table, or perhaps unmasking everyone, but he is soon quashed by the majority.

Decided, the band starts up, tentatively at first. A waltz.

Take your partners please, for it is Dance One.

The band eventually comes to a close, and the guests at your table gradually return to their seats: only one seat is empty, that of the Mayor (thankfully someone has had the thought to remove the unsightly corpse from the table). Amid the beginnings of the chatter, candid laughter and the clinking of glasses raised in a variety of toasts, you catch the strains of some gossip:

"Well, from what she was saying, the Fool was most reluctant to let the Devil dance with anyone else."

"Well, I don't know, but I heard that the Pirate could hardly take his eyes of the Masque of the Red Death all night!"

"I didn't see it myself, you understand, but I did hear that the Cat and the Skeleton seemed very friendly at one stage..."

Wondering what truth (if any) might be found in such idle nattering, eventually the table falls silent as the task in front of them looms.

It is INTERVAL ONE. Talk away.
With twelve guests still breathing, seven votes are required to lynch.

Moderator's Note: Have you read about the mini-games? Please think about your choices for the next dance (no choices in these games were counted from last night - these games will begin at the next dance).

Yay! It begins! I've really been looking forward to this game! And no deaths!

    Random vote The Cat.

    Hello!

No deaths! However, without knowledge of who's who and with no prior reputations behind the names, it's a little less likely that the doctor or blocker got lucky in choosing the same person as the mafia. Still a possibility, but maybe there's something else going on.

Gossip? At the moment I'd be very hesitant to use them in any arguments. They reek of red herring. We should definately wait untill some link between reality and the gossip has been seen. Even then, they should probably be considered very tenuous peices of information.

Gentles: The Shepherdess makes a good point, and since we all survived the last dance I'll go out further on a limb and speculate that it's even more unlikely that we have 2 killing teams who were both blocked.

Now, random vote The Shepherdess, lest she think I'm just trying to get on her good side ;)

 I have my own smiley!

Where are we going, and why are we in this handbasket?

    Ohh, Greetings! Greetings, dahlinks!

I've been looking forward to this night for SUCH a long time, SHAMELESSLY leaving out my invitation on the mantlepiece for all to see!

Wicked of me, I know, but one has to make a statement socially, I feel....

Butterfly! *mwah, mwah* Lovely to see you my dear! And such a PRETTY outfit you have, too!

And Shepherdess! Dahlink, you look DIVINE! So fresh-faced and rosy cheeked! You MUST tell me your secret to such youthful looks later!

And Devil, you old rogue... A little bird has told me you've been being monopolised this last dance, and I'm on the point of having a little pout at you, you wicked man ;)

SO glad the flunkies appear to have disposed of that grubby little monkey man, even if he WAS the Mayor. Quite apart from his costume reeking of mothballs, his swan-dive into the dessert has positively RUINED my appetite!

*leans closer and whispers behind an exquisitely lavish, scarlet fan* Frankly my dears, I'm wondering where the rest of our party have got to, especially as I seem to have attracted an ADMIRER!

    *shrieks with laughter* What larks!

And a swashbucking Pirate no less! I'm all of a flutter!

I'm not surprised in this absolutely GORGEOUS outfit of mine, though... terribly bad form to praise oneself up like this, of course, but I spent an absolute AGE deciding what to wear!

"Red," I said to myself when the invite arrived, "There is only one rule to obey on a night such as this, and that is the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt look FABULOUS!"

But then there were so MANY outfits that were absolutely DIVINE, I'm afraid I might have to go try on another before the evening draws to a close, so be prepared to be DAZZLED, my lovelies!

Oh, listen to me chattering on so! And so early in the evening too! I really SHOULD give others a chance to speak!

Now if my eyes don't decieve me, I see some more of our party approaching....

I have a feeling one of them MUST know something about what happened to our recently departed Mayor, and so I shall keep my own counsil for the moment......

*gesticulates wildly with fan* Coooooooeeeee darlings! Over here!

    Red

Is it my fault if Fools rush in where angels fear to tread?

    It's a nice butterfly. I like it.

Your costume smells. And it's got a yellowy stain on the back. Like someone spilled a drink on you. Dunno what the lumps are. You're carrying it off well though.

No, but it is your fault for looking so damn fine today;)

I'm not quite sure what to think of todays' lack of deaths.. I am most likely wrong but perhaps the mafia held back in the hope of establishing a few identities.

I managed to have a bit of dessert after the mayor fell into it! It was real monkey hair! Reminded me of my days as a minor functionary in the East African Protectorate, in the area which was just recently incorporated as Kenya. Did I ever tell you about the lion I shot? I swear he was as large as a rhino!

Oh Red Death! You look SMASHING, forget the rude comments of the Butterfly. He's just jealous that his MSN account won't be invented for another 80 years! Hmm, I think the pirate has a wee bit of a penchant for you! In fact too much! I shall randomly vote The Pirate for being so attached to Death, almost as if he had an affinity for it!

Oh and Devil, you look so realistic in that costume! You must promise to treat me nice when I reach your realm.

Good evening, my ladies, my gentlemen.

What a peculiar evening this has been so far! Death and Dancing, an exciting combination.

The attention you are receiving, Red Death, is no surprise to me. Surely that costume must be the most elaborate I have yet seen. Frills and Feathers, a true delight.

Anyway, I have to say, that gossip is interesting. I will vote The Fool for dancing with The Devil, all night long!

For the spammy post I am going to have to
    vote Red Death

I like all the outfits! :) although a knight costume is rather easy to do. I wonder why they killed The Mayor, seemed like a nice guy to me.

DEAR Knight! So complimentary, so genteel, and so.......SHINY!

    Welcome, welcome!

LOVE your steed, my dear! Maybe we should take a gallop around the dance floor later? I shall mark my card ;)

And fear not, I feel neither spurned nor tarnished by Butterfly's rather abrupt verdict on my outfit. :)

I shall tap the cheeky young scamp on the wrist and exclaim "Fiddle-de-dee!"

Perhaps a wee random vote: Butterfly will serve as a gentle reminder that, whatever the evening holds, manners should be maintained at all times ;)

Ahh! And here come Peacock and The Buckaneer to rejoin our jolly little group! Greetings to you both!

Now, as the poet said: Are we all met? :)

Dearest Red Death, I must insist: Buccaneer. I am proud of my double letters. :)

    Also: All met?
    No: Lack of cat.

I haven't yet been so blessed as to catch a glimpse of our Cat and our Tiger. Maybe they're chasing Skeleton up the stairs right now. Anyway, we're not all settled down yet.

Maybe someone could organize a different dessert? I think noone's likely to want the lurid leftovers of the last.

Some light and instantly-forgettable music accompanies the discussion. The table is cleared, ready for your coffee and post-dinner tipples.

It seems that the current voting is:

Red Death - 1 (The Peacock)
The Butterfly - 1 (Red Death)
The Cat - 1 (The Butterfly)
The Fool - 1 (The Buccaneer)
The Peacock - 1 (The Shepherdess)
The Pirate - 1 (The Knight)
The Shepherdess - 1 (The Devil)
Not Voting - 5 (The Skeleton, The Cat, The Fool, The Tiger, The Pirate)

With twelve guests alive and well, seven votes are required to secure a lynch.

Moderator's Note: To anyone not playing, but interested in guessing who is who: feel free to submit your guesses to me via a PM at any time. I'll record them and disclose at the end of the game.

Forgive my belated introduction into the conversation, i have been ruminating upon the motives and idle chatter aired during the previous dance. To this end i shall Vote: The Buccaneer for directing his attention towards the fool; the only individual gossip could attribute this last dance's lack of deaths to.

Presumptuous? Of course. Still, let this night play out and let us see if we cannot find amongst ourselves a culprit...
