All had been peaceful in this corner of game space: the borders had shifted, the players had moved on. But there's something about bad guys: You can defeat them across three different episodes, and they still find a way to come back. Just one thing --- this time, it's different. This time, they've got humans on their side...
But, hey, no problem, right? You're an old hand at saving the world, a pro at finding secret areas, and undisputed master of the pixel-perfect jump.
Plus, you're sure you've still got that list of cheat codes you downloaded from a dodgy BBS around somewhere...
In the end, ten of you answer the call. Some of you are the good guys. You know you're the good guys because that's what it says in the manual (well, in the photocopied manual your friend gave you). Some of you are not (otherwise this would be a very short game). It's up to you to discover who the evil-doers are, before they destroy your youth forever.
Heads held high, you are optimistic about the future. When suddenly, an evil voice comes out of nowhere. Well, it sounds like a voice, but the words make no sense to you at all.
"Wzmu wzvpw rmu tt qsbac ucw gmuiom pbv qewb!"
"Uh-oh", someone says, "That sounded just like ... "

The birds are cheeping (for those of you lucky enough to have a sound card) and the sky is a fine shade of cyan.
You all stumble out of your respective directories and do a quick head-count. It soon becomes clear that no one is dead!
In fact, the scene is really quite idyllic. There are a few trees, no bad guys in sight, and the parallax effect on the background is really quite impressive. There is even a powerup spinning lazily above the ground nearby. Unfortunately, no one recognises it --- it looks like a sort of stylised purple Q --- and you theorise that it must be from some other game.
As you look around, you begin to wonder if those rumours were simply rumours, and if all is well after all.
...but really, that's not very likely, is it?
It is DAY. Go for gold.
Yay, back in a mafia game! It's been a while. Looks like it's been a good night... I wonder whether there's any interactivity with the Q.
Well, that's great ![]()
On the potentially-gibberish text--if it's a keyword cipher (which is the only thing I can think of that we'd be expected to solve that could have a 'tt'--unless the spacing means nothing, of course), it's probably of length 4, but I haven't been able to work out what it could be. Someone with more time on their hands than I have might try a dictionary attack against it ![]()
*gets to the back of the Q*
Oh, and random vote: Carmine.
Forgot the random vote Glamdring ![]()
Coo it -has- been a while... Feeling a bit rusty.
*oils his joints*
*stretches out*
Aah.. -Much- better.
So, noone died on the first night, eh? Lucky blocker or Mafia attempting to seed confusion? Explain yourself, Dubya!
vote Dubya
Yay, we are alive! In fact, yay we are _all_ alive! Noone dead! How much better can a day 1 start? ![]()
And the random vote goes to.. Tryghul! (vote Tryghul)
A good morning to you all.
Random vote: Runtime 'cause I haven't been in a game with him for so long!
However, I note that Adapa declared his vote not-random. Perhaps he'd like to explain that.
Hi Colonic: In a game run by Carmine, with 9 people, how many killing groups would you expect there to be? Mono: 10Carmine: Read it again, Yes he did
Runtime: I am but a simple gatherer of wood and hewer of straw, err gatherer of straw and hewer of wood. It _has_ been awhile since a good mafia game. Hopefully this one goes smoothly.
vote carmine for surviving night one. Who knows, maybe they did try to kill her and the doc got lucky. I find that more believable than a lucky blocker scenario.
It's about bloody time a new game got under way. So, to the matters at hand! OMG VOTE ARALTALN because he wants me to waste time looking at something that looks to me to be complete gibberish! (PS RANDOM)
Dun dun DUNN
PS: Adapa did say it was random.
Gah, my eyes. I thought it read "Forget the random, vote..."
Carry on!
Hi Colonic: In a game run by Carmine, with 9 people, how many killing groups would you expect there to be? Mono: 10Don't sweat it Carmine, that's how I read it the first time through.
Obligatory: "Wow, no deaths last night, go town"
Retaliatory: Random Vote: Adapa
That's all for now.
What? A score list already??
Carmine: 2 (Araltaln, Dubya)
Glamdring: 1 (Adapa)
Dubya: 1 (Runtime)
Tryghul: 1 (Feantur)
Runtime: 1 (Carmine)
Araltaln: 1 (Tryghul)
Adapa: 1 (Glamdring)
Not voting: Serenity, tick
PS. As to the Q, the first person to grab it will glow a nifty purple colour for the next fifteen seconds! But apart from that, nothing will happen.
Woot!
grabs the Q
unvote Dubya
vote Adapa for grabbing the Q with reckless abandon. Purple is the colour of EVIL
sorry, bday stuff, can't really post much, not that there is anything to read.
random vote dubya for putting someone on 2 votes.
And for saying a doctor getting lucky is more likely than a blocker getting lucky.
Trying to distance your self from the no-kill are we?
It would fit nicely with you reassuring us of your good-natured straw-gathering ways.
Well you see, it would be reckless abandon, but I've made a very improbable link between the purple Q and the word "question", which further ties (although somewhat tenuously) with the fact that some old games used purple Qs to give players information. I've strained my brain and the dregs have decided that this link, while having a minute chance of existing, is strong enough to bet my life, nay, the lives of all of us on.
Plus, I want t3h glowies
So what info did you get Adapa?
Btw! Someone hasn't posted yet! unvote, vote Serenity
It is me! Alas, I am but a helpless follower of other's leads!
*gets in line with the other lemmings*
I didn't know it was open and the game was on. Interesting that there were no deaths on night one. Lucky doctor/blocker or something maybe? Good to be back in a mafia game though, been a long time!
Let's get the discussion going! FOS Feantur for cruelly voting me!
tick: nay, I was but issuing a challenge to Carmine to explain the fact that she's still alive. It's a tradition here at scene, apparently.
steals the Q from Adapa
