My god, I'm glad that's over and done with. Congratulations mafia, for winning, congratulations everyone for staying disguised (some better than others) for the most part and for the high entertainment that was provided by the game as a whole. I thoroughly enjoyed modding this game (though it was quite exhausting at times).

Particular kudos, from my point of view, goes to Daegul for being a serial killer that survived til the very last minute, and also for being so well hidden I don't think anyone every guessed his identity correctly. Also to Wacky, for an extremely ballsy claim that paid off in full (it was so convincing I kept having to remind myself that my game wasn't really that unbalanced ;)).

Massive thanks to Hi Colonic, who replaced for Mysteek when she had to go, and to Etain who did the same for Hi Colonic: I think they played up to Mysteek's initial style extremely well :D

Right, onto the info that you may or may not want! The logins I created for you: you're more than welcome to keep them if you want, but I'd advise you to change your passwords ;)

    Who was Who:

The Butterfly - Daegul - Psychopath
The Cat - Wacky - Mafia Goon 1
The Fool - Paranoia!!! - Townie (armed)
The Peacock - Wodan - Mafia Godfather
The Devil - La Paloma - Doctor
    Red Death - Mysteek/Hi Colonic/Etain - Townie (not armed)
The Pirate - Romarin - Weapons Detector
The Skeleton - Thalasso - Townie (not armed)
The Buccaneer - Feloris - Rumour Monger
The Tiger - SquintyJib - Vigilante
The Shepherdess - Bsjezz - Mafia Goon 2
The Knight - Dubya - Psychiatrist

    Role Summaries:

    Bad Guys
1 mafia godfather - knows the other two mafia, but cannot kill and cannot contact them. Essentially a crippled bad guy until they make a move (or both die). Carries no weapon unless both goons die, in which case will pick up one of their weapons. Pings as innocent in Rumour Monger results.
2 mafia goons - alternate kills until they find each other and/or the godfather. Once they've found each other and/or the godfather become traditional mafia. One has a pistol, one has a sword.
1 psychopath - carries small sharp knife (concealed). Pings as innocent to the Weapons Detector.

    Good Guys
1 psychiatrist - tests a player each night. If he finds the psychopath, will turn him into a normal townie unless the psychopath kills him on the same night.
1 weapons detector - watches a player each night and determines if they carry any weapons.
1 doctor - protects one player each night. Carries small sharp knife (obviously).
1 vigilante - may choose to kill one player each night. Carries a pistol.
1 rumour monger - watches one player each night. In the morning post, three rumours will be posted by me. The one that concerns that player is true, revealing their target or targetter. The others may or may not be true.
    3 townies - one carries a sword.

    Role PM's

    PSYCHOPATH: The Butterfly

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because there are plenty of people that wouldn't be particularly welcoming, what with posters bearing your face being plastered all across the town. Wanted indeed! You bet you're wanted, you'd never have been able to kill all those people if they hadn't wanted you...

You are a serial killer, and a very successful one too. During each dance you may pick someone to dance close to, all the better to slit their throat. Let me know your choice via PM. You carry a small sharp knife (although you conceal it extremely well: it's highly unlikely that anyone else would spot it).

You win when everyone else at the table is dead.

    GODFATHER: The Peacock

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it your scheme to take over the town would certainly be rumbled! The Mayor owed you too much, and in the end he had to go: you'll take his town as repayment instead. If only you and your goons had thought this through a little better... you can see the other two, bumbling around, but they have no idea what the others' disguise is, nor what your disguise is! Buffoons.

You are the mafia godfather, and you know that The Cat and The Shepherdess are your mafia stooges: but they don't know, and you can't attract attention by contacting them during the dances. So, for the moment, you must wait until they find you. You MAY NOT contact the other members of the mafia until they find you, at which point I will notify you.

You win when your mafia have taken over the town (i.e. everyone else at the table is dead, or you form the majority at the table).

    MAFIA GOON 1: The Cat

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it your boss's scheme to take over the town would certainly be rumbled! The Mayor was just the first step to a glorious (and bloody) victory. If only you and your buddy had thought this disguise malarkey through a little better... you have no idea what costumes your fellow goon or your godfather are wearing.

You are a mafia goon, but you have no idea who your fellow goon or godfather are. So, for the moment, on even dances you may choose to dance with another player and whisper a secret code to them. If they recognise the code, you'll have hooked up with at least one buddy! If they don't, you'll kill them instead with the handy pistol you're carrying (which you might want to keep quiet).

You win when your mafia have taken over the town (i.e. everyone else at the table is dead, or you form the majority at the table).

    MAFIA GOON 2: The Shepherdess

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it your boss's scheme to take over the town would certainly be rumbled! The Mayor was just the first step to a glorious (and bloody) victory. If only you and your buddy had thought this disguise malarkey through a little better... you have no idea what costumes your fellow goon or your godfather are wearing.

You are a mafia goon, but you have no idea who your fellow goon or godfather are. So, for the moment, on odd dances you may choose to dance with another player and whisper a secret code to them. You win when your mafia have taken over the town (i.e. everyone else at the table is dead, or you form the majority at the table).

    PSYCHIATRIST: The Knight

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it that psycho on the loose would be sure to hunt you down first. You've earned a good sum of money from that patient, and it'll only reflect badly on you if there are more deaths as a result of your oversight that saw the unfortunate escape.

You are a psychiatrist, desperately trying to find the psychopath that's on the loose. During each dance you may choose to dance with another player and attempt to analyse them as you dance. If you find the psychopath, you will be able to cure them!

You win when all the anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    WEAPONS DETECTOR: The Pirate

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it you'd be much more obvious in your scrutiny of the other dancers, and certainly become a target.

You aren't anybody particularly special, but you've got extremely sharp eyesight and an alert mind. During each dance you may choose to watch another player carefully and attempt to see if they have any weapons or implements that might cause another harm. Be warned that you might not always be able to discern fake weapons from real.

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    DOCTOR: The Devil

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it your true profession might shine through, making you a significantly higher priority target for those with murderous intentions. If only you'd been close enough to the Mayor to save him in time!

You are a doctor, and your tender ministrations and expert work can save the life of one player per night, providing that you're close enough to them at the time of crisis. To this end, during each dance you may choose to dance with another player, protecting them from a certain amount of harm that might befall them. You carry a small, sharp knife (for medical use only, of course).

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    VIGILANTE: The Tiger

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it your face would be a familiar sight to all (and not a pleasing sight to those that might have unlawful intentions).

You are the Town Sherriff, but without being able to see who's who there's no way that you'll be able to conduct any proper investigations. However, you do have your trusty pistol with which you could execute (if you'll excuse the pun) your own justice. During each dance you may choose to dance with another player, and swiftly deal out justice by shooting them. Of course, you do not have to do this. You carry a pistol.

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    RUMOUR MONGER: The Buccaneer

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because if you weren't wearing it everyone would recognise (and probably shun) you. You're not a popular citizen of the town, although you have its best interests at heart. You just can't help but stir up gossip and rumour wherever you go.

You are a simple citizen, but one that can't resist a good natter with anyone who will listen. During each dance you may observe one player closely to see what they might get up to. Any information that you discover will filter through the hall until everyone hears about it, along with information that others may have dreamed up.

(Explanatory note: Each dance, send me a name. At the end of that dance, I will post several rumours to the thread. It is, of course, up to you to discern which is relevant and thanks to your observation, and which is nonsense).

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    TOWNIE 1: The Skeleton

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because there's no way you want to raise your head and be next on the chopping block!

You are just a normal townsperson.

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    TOWNIE 2: The Fool

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because otherwise you'd be bound to be killed off early: that's just the way your luck always seems to go!

You are a plain townie. You carry a fake sword.

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

    TOWNIE 3: Red Death

Nobody will recognise you beneath this disguise, you're sure of it. And it's a good job too, because otherwise everyone else would be revealed and you'd all spot the bad guys! Oh wait... that would be a good thing. Well, best go along with the plan.

You are a straightforward citizen with no special powers.

You win when all anti-town elements have been wiped out.

I'm afraid I didn't record all the in-game guesses as to others' identities. However, I did note down guesses from people that weren't playing (at the time).

The Guesser's name is in brackets following their guess. :)

The Shepherdess - Miv (Hi Colonic), La Paloma (Hi Colonic), Romarin (Dasquian), Thalasso (Dasqiuan)

Also, final congratulations to the Red Death conglomerate for choosing the best costumes, and also for being the most spot on with identity guesses (in spite of Etain never submitting a guess!), and also (perhaps unsurprisingly, given the changing identities) being the most disguised!

    Fooled! Well played Wacky. :)

I never really believed my own arguments against him because out of everyone, I knew for certain that my motives were suspect! Woe is me.

Not a bad survival time though, I reckon. It would've been great to pull off a Psycopath win, but I think I needed to be better at spotting the mafia early (and not having the doctor get in the way when I did :P)

I'm sorry if I was offensive toward anyone. Sometimes goading someone into being annoyed is a valuable way of making them slip, but I may well have misjudged the line at times. My excuse is that I was snowed under at work and was desperately trying to keep up.

I really enjoyed playing this game. I've pulled some hair out over being so fooled at the end, but I got really engrossed in it. Well balanced, and fun to play. Nice one, Carmine :D

I followed most of the game, didn't submit any guesses for identity though, although I did think red death might have been mysteek.

Intersting the doctor protected the mafia goon almost every single night!
what was behind those choices wacky?

From here it looks like masqurade mafia was a success and I would be willing to sign up to any future attempt :)

Well, first, sorry to Daegul, you might have won if I had played differently, and a SK win would have been quite fantastic. :)

Anyway, on the last day, I was already sure that Red was a townie as well, and I was just really annoyed that we had let the Peacock off the hook and that I didn't attack the Cat with more sense.

Maybe if I had played more townie-like our two last killers really might have killed each other, so if I lost the town the game because of that, I'm really sorry.

As for the rest, it was highly enjoyable. It was really well balanced I thought, I could even imagine the Cat's wrong claim to be true, seeing that the two investigative roles I knew as proven were rather weakened. Well done for that claim, it really fooled everyone until it was too late for us.

I liked the 'blind' thing as well. As it turned out I'm either no good at all at figuring this out or almost everyone did an extremely good job at disguising themselves.
I first thought that Romarin was Red, then I thought La Paloma was Red, I just should have figured that La Paloma should be the Devil then. I had no clue whatsoever about anyone else.

It also saves games from "I don't like player X, and/or his playing style, so vote X". I thought Dubya did rather well this game. I'll definitely play in games of this format again, it's a good experience.

What else can I say now...I liked my role! :) I only realised how dangerous it could be when the Pirate died, so maybe I quietened down too much after that. It was fun though, because I never knew whether any of the other two rumours were true as well. Figuring out what my observations could mean was quite amusing as well. (And the whole gossip thing was written in a wonderful way, it really made me laugh sometimes.)

I just really enjoyed this game, and I suppose the more games I play the more I learn about playing. Thanks Carmine, it was great! :)

Congratulations to the mafia, and comiserations to Daegul and the town!

This was a really fun game to watch - I was particularly pleased that once again, the mafia won by proactively taking risks which paid off. Kudos to Wacky for making sure Daegul targetted Feloris in the final night, though I did wonder: did you know for sure that Daegul was the SK, or did you suspect the Buccaneer a bit yourself? :)

I also thought the costumes were a lot of fun; I particularly liked watching the Shepherdess, Cat and Butterfly, all evil, all vie for the most cutiest, non-threatening, nausea-inducing avatars and sigs that they could find :D

Everyone is loving the big funny joke.

I think Wacky knew very well that I was innocent, and was playing a brilliant game to get me attacked. Last day was pretty frustrating because I guessed what he was doing, but it was too late to lynch him. :?
I should have said more about that as well I guess, but then I thought Butterfly had caught on to something when Cat posted his weird "investigation results" ('It says that he can't be a killer, so I think he is' - seriously, Wacky, I think you deserve some kind of extra applause for getting away with that :P), but apparently I was wrong.

I agree about the avatars, especially the Cat's last one, I mean, pink kitten? How much "cuter" can it get? (I only voted for the Banzai-cat though, that one was really fun).

    Bah! How embarassing! ;)ops:

At least I've had a lot of practice now at developing really good 20/20 hindsight!

Well done Wacky, mainly I was protecting you each turn (and taking your side) because after night 3 when there was a SK kill but no Mafia kill I assumed I'd saved you from the Mafia. D'oh. Not dying on Night One when I picked you completely at random (well, I do like cats...) helped too, of course. Red Death (whoever it was at the time) I protected during night 2 on the grounds that s/he sounded intelligent and interesting and so was probably a good mafia target.

Daegul? I don't get offended when folks try to goad me (or anyone else), or get surly and aggressive when questioned - I just start suspecting them more. :D Which is what happened with Squintyjib and Red Death and myself. Who were innocent ;)ops: , but hey - Wodan reacted that way too! I reckon in future games I'll still happily try to lynch lurkers and the sulkily defensive.

Apologies if I actually offended anyone as well - things seemed to be getting pretty heated at times.

I had an utter blast playing this game, but was finding it a bit frustrating that we kept getting deadlined. I was becoming paranoid that despite my attempts to keep things moving I was actually bogging the discussion down. I think the town made at least 2 really bad, and otherwise avoidable, lynches because we were deadlined.

Feloris - you'd asked why you seemed more anti-town than pro-town by the end. Personally, it was because you'd been so quiet and non-committal all game. You never stuck your neck out, you never took risks. I just thought your play-style looked like a bad guy trying to avoid attention. (Hope your PC gets better soon.)

And I did a big part of painting you black at the end - I really wasn't as sure as I made out whether it was you or Wacky who was the bad guy, but I figured that the 2 bad guys would be more inclined to risk attacking each other if they thought they could get a townie lynched the next day - so I figured it didn't really matter if I was actually making an innocent look guilty. (Embarassingly, though, at the end of the day I talked myself into protecting The Cat yet again.)

I thought Wacky and bsjezz played a great mafia, but Wodan's quietness and grumpiness really should have made him more of a target, I think. And we really should have noted his complaint about his "friends" - plural. It was The Shepherdess & The Cat who were most vocal in attacking The Peacock Day one... *kicks self hard*

Thanks to everyone, I think I enjoyed this game more than any other I've played so far! Very close, very tense ending! :D

Yeh, my PC is better, I have all the parts here, they just need to be put together. Finally. ;)

I see I've been making the same mistake again that I make every game. I simply assume everyone else is a better player than me (ie more clever etc) and accordingly don't think my opinion is worth all that much. So I never vote for anyone early on, I always wait to see what everyone else thinks etc. Next game I'll just put this large notice on my monitor saying "Be confident" and it hopefully should work better. :)

Also, apologies for freaking out and thinking you were the ?ber-evil.
Next time, at least I'll know it's complete paranoia when it's here.

I've always been amazed that people seem to trust me and follow my leads so readily. It's not like I have any better idea about what's going on.

Well - I thought I did in this game, but as it turned out many of the nights without kills were because the mafia had to find each other. I'm impressed that they did so so quickly. Hey! Did you guys spot each other so quickly because you spotted your fellow scum, or were you assuming that you'd be killing someone?

Anyway Feloris, I've tried being quiet in games. And I've tried being mega-active. And being active is much more fun. Being noisy and opinionated rocks!

Oh - another question about me seeming eeeevil - when Wacky and Daegul both went for me: were you assuming I was a townie or a bad guy? (I'd thought that the Mafia had all the clues to work out who the Doctor was, but I didn't think the SK had twigged yet.)

I only definitely thought you were evil that one day (I think it was early morning and I was really tired) where I freaked out, most of the rest of the time I thought you were acting really pro-town. (Which is the reason why I was acting so incredibly overwhelmed, I thought "Just how wrong can impressions BE? Woe..." or something the like.) I can't remember at what stage both of them attacked you, but I don't think I thought you guilty then. Just at the end when barely anyone was left and I didn't have much of a clue.

Wow. Nice set up to prevent there being 2 kills most nights (making the mafia find each other) and good premise :) Cat totally had me fooled, I followed the game right to the end and still believed his claim.

La Paloma played brilliantly as well, he even managed to keep up with my loops of logic. Well done! I look forward to sparring with him again in a game in the future.

it was a very nice game and i really like the blind thing, although it did make me use caps *sigh*
although i was ready to kill the shepherdess in RL if i only knew who it was in interval 1, that was really overdoing the creating some distance thing, and i'm pretty sure it is what kept people going after me the rest of the game, still i survived rather long, considering :)

I didn't really want to say too much on my last interval, as i was afraid it might give away the cat, who had made some small mistakes already, so i decided to try and keep the SK from even trying to kill mafia instead, i guess that wasn't needed, now that i read the other posts here :)

for what it's worth i would have posted the same thing about making people claim if i wasn't mafia, and was a bit depressed i had to stop the process to save myself, oh well... WE WON! :D
