Mafia, But More So
It seemed like a subtle change to start with. Things just seemed easier. Things were lighter, flimsier, closer together. When Old Mrs. Sanders (83) pushed a young would-be mugger through a wall, people started to wonder. When young Jimmy Baxter (5) beat the world 100m record, the government stepped in and the road was sealed off.
Some people said it must have been something in the water. Some people said that it must have been in the air, because it seemed to affect everyone.
Some people didn't say anything at all, on account of being dead.
Yes, some time after the curfews and the cordons and the quarantine, bodies started turning up. Nobody on the outside would come in to help, so residents came up with their own methods. Number one priority: survival.
