So, am modding a game. I have a cop. A reserve cop and a recruiting cult.

If the cult recruits the cop, the cop looses the investigation power, and the will for the town to win.

Does the cop carry on pretending he's investigating?

I can't activate the reserve cop, as the cop isn't dead, or I'll alert the reserve cop top what's happened. I'm assuming the cop just has to carry on pretending to generate results.

Does the reserve cop know who the cop is? If not, you could just give him some gump about how he came into work and found the super's office (with its trademark permanently-closed blinds) open and empty, and so he assumed the role. That way he's got a hint that the cop has been recruited but not killed, but has no idea who the cop actually was.

If the existence of a cult is known and the cop is already outed, this is rather unfortunate. I think depriving the town of a cop is a little harsh, even more so if the town continues to trust the real "cop". Maybe you could do the above, but word it in such a way as to imply that the real cop hasn't neglected his duties, but the reserve cop has also stepped up to the line (and let the players debate what that implies)?

Everyone is loving the big funny joke.

The cop has claimed, but not yet been proven, except they did finger a victim, who was already 90% lynched already.

The cult is so far unknown, HOWEVER, the recruiter is targetted for tonight, so by morning it may well be known.

Perhaps I could just turn the cop off, and turn the new one on. As you say, only the real cop will know why, and they can say they were one shot, or something.

i'd just give the new cop a result and the old cop none, and no other info, and let them all work it out.
The old cop can then make up a result if he wants, or go the one-shot option, which the back-up cop may believe, unless the town cottons on to the lynch in which case they make think the cop has been recruited, but so be it.

Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?

I agree with tick, if you take away the confusion of the roles you take away the town's information. They can't win if you change the game on the fly so they never learn anything.

Luckily, the Vigilante took out the recruiter, who didn't try for the cop, but someone else instead. Crisis averted, but an interesting potential clash.

The only potential issue is of the Mafia hit the Vigilante, still awaiting their choice!
