The Winks are a super-quirky Canadian band. They use cellos and mandolines at the same time, that's how quirky. They must be doing alright, because they had a tour in Australia, something not every Canadian band does. They have fifteen mp3s you can download from their site. I recommend getting Snakes! and Crime Scene.

...and like everyone else these days, they have a Myspace site, where you can hear 2 tracks from their latest albulm "Tights". Much better quality recordings than they've issued previously! :D

Oh, and there's three rather poorly-lit live videos of them performing live over on YouTube : Crime Scene, Green Pen, and To Talk, if you're really keen.

Aaaaaaand since I'm pimping my mates lately, this might be a good time to mention that those two Sweethearts Todd and Tyr have a new album out - "Birthday Party" and their production values and songwriting keeps getting better. :D

You can hear a few of the new tracks on their myspace of course, and download the mp3s from their website. I quite like "Guitar Swing (is dead)", but that might because they wrote me into the second verse. aww shucks.

    Yeah why not!
    Cuthbert and the Night Walkers

    DJ Jack Prest

    These are my mates bands.

"ts not easy to describe where Cuthbert and the Night Walkers are coming from. The best we can do is to recall a review of a Flaming Lips show which likened the spectacle to a childs first birthday party organized by the parents while on acid. We wanted to be in a band like that.

With this idea firmly planted in our heads, the fresh and delightfully odd CATNW was born in mid-2005 with three boys on instruments and five girls in a choir. Like any good party, the more the merrier, and the Night Walkers were joined by a percussionist and a pianist.

CATNW listen to big Broadway finales, nursery rhymes and David Bowie!

Over the last year and a half, CATNW have been working on their live show at countless performances, giving sound engineers headaches by asking them to mix a choir and making lots of new friends.

    To be continued...! "

And Jack has recently made his own mashup compilation "Crowded Herd". In the tradition of the Grey Album, Crowded House meets The Herd.
He also has the Syd-City Mixtape floating around somewhere.

Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?

CATNW have a pretty good sound! More groups should use choirs dammit.
