I just moved over all PMs from the old phpbb forum to this place, they're all in the Whispers category. I've done some playing around, and where possible the PMs have been shoehorned into being discussions. Basically any PMs with the same name (without the "Re:" in replies) and which are from X to Y or from Y to X have been made into one discussion.
I guess if you've PMed someone a lot with the same subject ("mafia", "stuff" etc) you might get some kind of strange discussions. Same if there are lots of deleted PMs in the middle or something like that. But otherwise it should be nice. Let me know if there are any issues.
Wow. Impressive effort!
Seems I was very slack at deleting old mail - I have 6 pages of old pms to memory-lane through. Mostly concerning old Mafia games. If we have limits on the amount of space we have to store data here (I know nuffin about that sort of thing) I could cheerfully delete most of those. If I knew how.
1000 miles from the chimera I chase...Well, it might have been that you deleted the PMs, but that whoever you sent them to (or got them from) didn't delete them, PMs like that have been made into whispers as well. And storage space in the database isn't an issue at all, don't worry about it. ![]()
Right-ho!
Hope I didn't come across as ungrateful or anything.
1000 miles from the chimera I chase...Hehe, not at all. It was nice of you to think of storage space and so on. ![]()
If you're someone who browses the forums by category, you might wonder where the mafia games have gone, well let me tell you: To the Mafia Archive, a place for finished games, and their post-game discussions. I've also managed to get those mafia games that we had archived but not in the forum (in the zip with the ugly html pages) into the database, and you can browse them just like any other game. I think I will dive into the database and edit some dates so the games get ordered nicely, with games and their discussions next to each other. Or perhaps I'll move the discussions over to Mafia Discussions... that might be a good idea.
Anyway, enjoy. ![]()
Sweeet!
1000 miles from the chimera I chase...By the way, I just threw up some avatars for the mafia maskerade game, but I'd be happy to change them if anyone has something they think is better. ![]()
On a completely unrelated note, could I put in a request for some sort of "Delete Post" function? Could make life easier for buttertypers like myself!

Oh, I thought people could delete their own posts. I'll see what I can do, it shouldn't be too hard. Right now I'm finishing up something to automate editing permissions in mafia games though, so it'll have to wait a little while.
Dank!

Okay, I changed my mind. Old games are back in the mafia games category because otherwise I would have to change my little mafia mod extension.
For anyone who has modded a game here on Scene, you might know that ever since scene started you had to get an admin to give you mod privileges. That was annoying, both for mods and admins. So from now on everything should be automatic. I've made a change that makes anyone who starts a game in the Mafia Games category a mod for that specific thread. The mod can edit any post in the thread, everyone else can't edit anything.
At least that's how it's supposed to work, so let me know if it doesn't (or if it breaks something outside the games category as well)! It doesn't seem to have broken anything so far though. ![]()
The little bar with buttons above the post writing box has been edited a bit, mainly the colour pallette bit. This because it inserted a crazy amount of colours, it shows a lot less right now. This does not mean that you can't use as many colours anymore, it's just that you'll have to enter them manually. There are two ways to set text as coloured, either with the name of the colour (red, blue, green, etc.) or the hex value (#ff0000, #0000ff, #00ff00, etc.).
If you want to use colour name, and don't know if it'll work, just use preview. How hex colour values work is something I won't go into, but if you want to know how they work, here's a pretty good explanation, and here is a list of colour names supported by all browsers.
is there any way to change time zones? And are the posts time-stamped just for time-checking in mafia games?
Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?There's no changing time zones, at least not at the moment. The times are set to the time of the server on which Scene is hosted. And yeah, I put it in for mafia games. Is time-zone adjusted absolute dates for the whole forum something that you want?
I wouldn't mind having it, not overly concerned though. Just thought i'd mention it, only just noticed the timestamps for mafia today and noticed they weren't adjustable.
Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?I tried prefixing all category names with the group they belong to (which at the moment is Signal, Noise, or Meta) to see what it looked like. I don't mind much either way, what do you guys think?
On a slightly related note, I have a modified version of the Scenilla style which colours the Signal and Whisper thread names in a different colour (I think that's pretty much the only thing that's different, but I might be wrong), you can check it out here if you want.
