    Hello!

So, I moved over Scene, and now everything seems to be fine! Hooray! Things might look a bit weird, but never fear, your friendly admin is here!

One thing you've probably already noticed is that instead of the subforums, you now have all threads on one page. If you want the categories, click on the "Categories" tab on the top of the page. On the categories page you can also choose from which categories discussions should be shown on the main page. For instance if all you're interested in is the mafia games and the music section, you can click on "Block category" next to all other categories, which will block them from being shown on the Discussions page. Further, there's a bit of a difference in what Vanilla calls things, threads are discussions, posts are comments. And you don't have PMs anymore, instead you get whispers. This means you can put in private messages in the middle of the thread. Just fill in a name in the "whisper to" box, and only that person will see your message.

I've added a few custom stylesheets which change the way this looks. I'm thinking about either editing the default style (Vanilla) a bit, or perhaps change it to Green. Mainly I thought we could have slightly larger avatars, and the size you get with Green are okay. You can change your style here. And I was thinking about something to make discussions in different categories looking a bit different, either some colour change per category, or perhaps a little icon. Anyway, comments are welcome!

    Formatting your posts
When writing your post, make sure BBCode is selected next to "Format comments as". You'll get a little formatting bar with buttons and the whole BBCode thing with [b] and so on will work. If Text is selected, your post will look just like you type it, without formatting.

I think that's it for now, I'm still sorting some things out (some things don't completely work like they're supposed to), so if you have any questions, ask away. And if there is some feature you want to see, you can post here as well. Happy new year everyone :)

There should be a link (which I just added) in the bar on the left saying "Mark All Read"!

Weirdness, if you try this: [b]adfasdf[/b] and make sure that where it says "Format comments as" (just above the add your comments button) that BBCode is selected.
Edit: Ah, yeah, you had "text" selected, perhaps I should see how to make BBCode the standard formatting so we don't get that kind of confusion!

I discovered that the Mark All Read thing defaulted to only marking things from the last two weeks as read. I've tweaked it so now everything should get marked as read!

    More new stuff:
The RSS2 is a feed as you probably guessed, you can get feeds for the whole forum, a specific category, or a specific discussion. In addition to this you can also subscribe to forums, categories and discussions. The latter will send you mails whenever new things are posted (at least, I think so).

    About quotes:
The thing that formats the quotes here does things a bit differently from the old forum. You used to quote by having [quote="someone"]text[/quote], the new style is [quote][cite]Posted by someone[/cite]text[/quote]. And, just like in the old place [quote]text[/quote] also works, but you don't get a little header of who originally wrote it.

On the right side of each post there are some links, one of them says "quote", if you click it, the whole post will be copied as a quote into the commenting textfield.

So, I see that email notification thing is giving errors on the longin page, so I should check that out as well!

I think I can set up smileys again if people want it.

Oh, I'll check if I can write something to convert all old internal forum links to work with this new place (handy for old posts in mafia games).

Feel free to keep posting questions, opinions & requests.

Well, the way things work is that Vanilla (the forum software) has a pretty bare core, but is really, really good in extensibility. So almost everything that's not absolutely nessesary comes as an extension, a kind of plug-in. I installed one which lets people subscribe to discussions, and get emails when there are new replies, and apparenly it gives errors for some reason. I've disabled it for now and I'll see if I can figure it out.

And for those of you who still want updates, you can use the RSS feed, which most modern browsers and email clients can do things with. :)

This whisper thing, does that mean PMs can be sent inside a thread?

I think so... the way I read it (I'm sure Mono will correct me if I'm wrong), is that you can send a normal thread comment as a whisper and it'll sit there as though it's in the thread, but only visible to the recipient (and presumably sender).

Needless to say, this affects mafia games in the same way as normal PMs would, ie don't use them unless you're specifically allowed ;) It'd be interesting to see if they can be used in funky role mechanics, though. I can see a whisper to the mod being a good way of sending in day and even night actions - particularly if there's some mechanism by which they can later be made public.
