Podcasts are often free, sometimes they're good, sometimes they're not. A bit like radio and music and such in general really. Anyway, I thought we could have an equivalent of the Webcomics discussion, but for podcasts. List what you're listening to, and what is good. I'll get us started!

This American Life is a really nice radio show which now is being released as a free weekly podcast. Each one-hour show has a theme and usually has two or three stories about people with good plans and intentions and how things go in a completely different direction. It's really a lovely show, (it even has its own wikipedia entry) and I really recomment checking it out. Podcast feed.

WFMU (a New York radio station) has some nice podcasts. I don't like all of them, but the Antique Phonograph, Secret Museum of the Air, Sinner's Crossroads, and Thomas Edison's Attic all have some nice really nice really old music, and Downtown Soulville with Mr. Fine Wine has some very nice soul music in it. Finally Anti Static with it's three obscure 80s and 90s music might interest some, but other than that I found the rest not really worth listening to.

I've already mentioned this in the Kleptones thread, but Eric Kleptone of the Kleptones has a mash-up podcast, which hasn't been updated for a while, but when he posts things, it's nice. subscription link

Coverville is sometimes good as well. It's a podcast with just covers of songs (and sometimes of originals if a cover is the more famous version of a song).

Triple J has various showss available to download. I recomend Sunday Night Safran (a funny and interesting show about religion, politics, etc.), This Sporting Life (even if you're not interested in Sport because it's very funny), triple j breakfast with Myf, Jay & The Doctor (excerpts only, just random funny stuff), Hack (discussion of current events, interviews with people effected, etc.) and Dr Karl (sciency stuff ecplained). And though I haven't actually listened to it, Bloody Sunday with Chris and Craig is probably pretty funny too.

Oh, I just have to say this (I hope you don't mind Wallsy). Perhaps I just was unlucky to get a bad show, but wow, that Safran show is awful. The description "an amusing mix of religion and politics" is just ... so wrong. Rather than trying to be amusing, or god forbid interesting, it's just mindless rambling. Stupid mindless rambling, with sometimes a guest who tries to say something which might have been worth hearing, if there weren't two rambling idiots interrupting all the time. I can't believe I wasted an whole hour listening to this.

No, that's pretty much how it always is. I guess if you don't like John or Father Bob then it's not the show for you. I find them entertaining though.

Well, guess it's just not really my kind of thing then. :)

WFMU have added another show to their list of podcasts, Muriel's Treasure, a show with calypso and soca. And a disproportionate amount of the Mighty Sparrow. I like it, suits the summer months.

I've also started subscribing to the Radio Lab podcast. Popular science kind of things, discussing sleep, zoos, memory, mortality and morality (one subject per show).
