There is a webbrowser called Opera. It used to cost money (although there was an ad-powered free version), but now it's completely free. It's a nice browser with tabs and mouse gestures and other neat features. You might want to try it, and while you're busy trying it out, you could read 30 days to becoming an Opera lover, which teaches you about all the neat things Opera can do.
Okay, just a quick post. There's a new version of Opera: Opera 9. And it finally has the one thing it was missing (and I never managed to get the community made version): content blocking. No more annoying ads, evar. I think it's also available for more platforms now, including such zany ones as MacOS and OS/2.
As for reasons you should download (and use) it: It's free, it can do everything Firefox can, but it's faster and doesn't hog as much resources (especially if you consider how many extensions you'd have to stuff into FF to get the same functionality). It also has some features I personally like very much, like storing multiple username/passwords per site and a good way to let you choose which one to log in with, and being able to redefine keyboard shortcuts.
Download it from the Opera website.
new version? cool, Opera rocks ![]()
yeh opera is the goods although i dunno about it not hogging resources...maybe mine is buggered or something, but it starts using up more and more til its using like 150mb of memory which is just ridiculous.
Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?tick:yeh opera is the goods although i dunno about it not hogging resources...maybe mine is buggered or something, but it starts using up more and more til its using like 150mb of memory which is just ridiculous.
That seems to be intentional, reasoning that most computers these days have hundreds if not thousands of megs of RAM, and you might as well use them. To free up the memory Opera is using, just minize it.
I'm beginning to really like the Speed Dial that was introduced in v.9.20, even though I didn't think I would, it's really neat.
hehe i do need more ram but thats besides the point ![]()
slowest reply evar btw ![]()
mouse gestures is my favourite feature I reckon
Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?I managed to keep it within a year at least ![]()
Yeah, mouse gestures are sweet. The nicknames and searches are also great. I love how you can use POST, so I can upload images to imageshack without having to fill out any forms at all.
one thing that annoys me and could be an oversight on my behalf:
using opera for email... how do i set up groups? so i can just type in oen thing and have it sent out to a particular group or whatever. cant find it anywhere.
Dunno, I hardly use it.
You can add folders to your address book, then send to everyone in that folder.
Not sure how well it works, it might not let you have someone in more than one folder.
mono, how do i do the imageshack thing you speak of?
Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?Preferences->Search->Add
Fill in the following values
Name: Imageshack
Keyword: is
Address: http://www.imageshack.us/transload.php
Check the Use POST checkbox, and
Query String: url=%s
And then you can just type "is http://www.example.com/image.gif" in the address bar and hit Enter. You can change the Name and Keyword values if you want.
sweet as, I'll play around with it when i get home tonight.
Can't really ask for a sig and then not have one now, can i?1 to 13 of 13
